COVID-19 and youth sport in New Zealand

The COVID-19 pandemic has widely and dramatically impacted all parts of society. As we continue to digest the shock that this pandemic is having on sport in New Zealand, it’s worth reiterating some sage advice flowing around – be calm, be kind.

It’s been said by many. These are unprecedented times. We’ve seen professional and national sport teams impacted by postponement or cancellation of matches and seasons.

We have been warmed by the overwhelming response from the Balance is Better community who have vocally expressed their understanding and support of the decisions that sports have made in response to COVID-19. Sport New Zealand have information and help for the sector available here.

As New Zealander’s, we have entered one of the greatest matches of our time, and our ability to play as a team will be paramount.

What would you like help with?

In this difficult time, we want you to tell us your experiences of how COVID-19 is impacting youth sport in New Zealand. To help guide our response to you, we encourage you to send us your thoughts, observations and questions here.

As the home of youth sport in New Zealand, the aim of Balance is Better is to help parents, coaches and administrators support young people in New Zealand to have quality experiences in sport. Within these complex and fast-moving times, we are here to support you and hope you reach out to our team if you need any help.
