Inclusive sport environments help all young people to feel welcome, valued and able to take part – regardless of ability.
Halberg Foundation, which supports disabled young people in sport and active recreation, offers CoachMate inclusion training resources to help coaches, teachers, volunteers and whānau deliver inclusive, positive experiences. The resources are free and available through the CoachMate app.
What the inclusion training modules cover
The Halberg Train learning modules are short, practical and easy to use. They help people involved in sport and active recreation to:
- build understanding of disability and inclusion
- use positive, inclusive language and communication
- recognise that everyone’s abilities and needs are different
- adapt activities so everyone can take part
- use the STEP model (Space, Task, Equipment and People) to reduce barriers
- create environments where young people feel safe, confident and included.
The modules focus on simple, practical ideas that can be put into practice straight away.
Supporting inclusive practice
Halberg Train also includes a range of inclusive activities and practice ideas. These resources are easy to adapt across different sports and activities, age groups and settings, helping more young people participate and feel a sense of belonging.
How to access
The Halberg Train inclusion training resources are free and available through the CoachMate app. Once you have downloaded the CoachMate app, add Halberg Train when given the option to add sports and then start exploring.
